Ondo 2020: Deputy Governor Returns To Akeredolu

After two months of keeping away from official government functions, the embattled deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi on Monday made a surprise appearance with his estranged governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

The occasion was the weekly press briefing by the Governor in respect of COVID-19 which usually holds at the Government House Grounds.

The development appears however, appears to have put the deputy Governor’s supporters and associates at the edge as they have expressed disappointment that Ajayi took them “round and endless trip without results”.

Daily Independent gathered from reliable sources that the deputy governor who has been having running battle with his boss over the 2020 governorship election had a two-pronged approach to his touted governorship ambition.

Aside rumouts that he is eyeing the governorship ticket on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ajayi had been linked with moves to contest against Akeredolu in same party, All Progressives Congress (APC), which he has denied.

But a supporter of the deputy governor who is a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly told our correspondent on condition of anonymity that the action of his benefactor had put all his supporters in bad light.

“We are not against any move that will bring the two leaders together; but our bone of contention is the way he does his things. Up till yesterday, we were still meeting and engaging in social media banta with his perceived enemies.”

“None of us knew he had gone to meet the minister of State for niger Delta and another APC leader who brought him to the governor. The man just took us round an endless trip without result. All the fight we fought is worthless now.”

“Under this circumstance, what does he expect us to do? Some of us have already gone beyond the line abusing people close to the governor but here we are. In some cases, our contacts in the PDP have been upbeat that we are coming but all appears to have changed now.”

It was gathered that angered by the decision of the deputy governor to return to Governor Akeredolu, a close ally of his and lawmaker, Wale Willliams had threatened to work for the choice of the Unity Forum, Olusola Oke.

Unity Forum is the group led by former deputy governor, Ali Olanusi opposed to the return of Akeredolu for another term in office.

Meanwhile, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly at their Parliamentary session on Monday, ruled put moves to impeach Governor Akeredolu.

Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon.Gbenga Omole in a statement alleged that the stories were the handiwork of fifth columnists who were bent on creating crisis.

The statement read: “That there was no plan to commence impeachment moves against the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN.”

“The news making the rounds that the Speaker’s Lodge was under siege is a hoax and the imagination of those behind it. The lodge was never under siege. The armed Policemen sighted there were at some distance away and were there to maintain peace, law and order.”

“On the issue of the N4.3b under scrutiny, all relevant documents should be submitted to the Committee on Public Account and Committee on Finance and Appropriation respectively.”

“There is a robust relationship between the Executive Arm Of Government and the Legislature; whatever has been planted in the media in recent times are the handiwork of fifth columnists”, he said.
