Chukwueze to battle Felix, & 8 others for Kopa Trophy Award

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze will battle Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix, Jason Sancho of Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi, Vicinus Jr of Real Madrid and five others for the Ballon d’Or award for the best U21 player of the year.

The 20-year-old Umuahia-born who has scored two goals in eight league appearances for Villarreal this season and had a decent performance at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt were he instrumental help Genort Rohr team finish third place last summer.

This is the second edition of the award after it was created last year, the Kopa Trophy which is named after former French footballer, Raymond Kopa is designed for the best U-21 footballer in the world.

Chukwueze is the first Nigerian to be nominated for the award and will look to become the second player to win it after Kylian Mbappe won the maiden edition last year.

The winner will be picked by former winners of the Ballon d’Or with the award ceremony to hold on December 2nd.
