UCL: Willian’s volley gives Blues the victory

Willian stepped up to help Chelsea to edge Lille at the Stade Pierre Mauroy 2-1 to give Frank Lampard first Champions League win on Wednesday.

Chelsea scored the first goal of the game via Tammy Abraham after the striker met a perfect cross from Fikayo Tomori deep inside the box to put the away team ahead.

Lille responded with a fine strike but Kepa Arrizabalaga was at alert tp pull a fine save to deny Luiz Araujo the opportunity to the equaliser.

Victor Osimhen was on point for the home team in the 33rd minute after he jumped high to meet a perfect executed corner kick from Jonathan Bamba to make it 1-1.

Jorginho had an opportunity to put ahead just before the end of the first half but he smashed it against the woodwork.

The first half ended in a stalemate.

Willian got the second goal for Chelsea from Callum Hudson Odoi’s assist in the 78th minute of the game and that marked the final goal of the game as Chelsea sealed a 2-1win over Lille at the Stade Pierre Mauroy as he helped Lampard to first Champions League win.
