Aregbesola Receives UNDP/SDG Icon of Sustainable Development Award

The United Nations Development Programme UNDP and the Sustainable Development Goals SDG Team in West Africa led by its Youth Ambassador, Mr Mohammed Thompson has awarded the former Governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the Icon of Sustainable Development.

The award which recognizes Aregbesola’s landmark achievements in infrastructural development in the state of Osun and more importantly in Education.

Thompson and his team presented the award to Aregbesola on Friday in his Lagos residence.

The UNDP/SDG Ambassador also described Aregbesola as an epitome of Global Goals Achiever In Africa.

The award follows a retinue of several laurels for the Minister-Designate who has received a lot of commendation for his giant strides in Infrastructure, Education, Poverty Alleviation, Youth Employment and Good Governance during his reign as Governor from 2010 to 2018.

During Aregbesola’s Administration in Osun, Record breaking Infrastructure of World class standard in Roads, Schools and other insatiable projects for the economic development and growth of the state were put in place.

His government invested heavily in education, an achievement that state of the art schools constructed, welfare of teachers met, students being catered for, free healthy and nutritious meals for elementary school pupils among others which has continued to yield positive reports.

His efforts in poverty eradication culminated in the engagement of 60,000 Youths as O’YES cadets, Women Empowerment as well as other laudable initiatives lifted not less than 500,000 people out of poverty and affected in a positive direction the fortunes of the state.

These efforts and so on ranked Osun as the 2nd less miserable and poverty ridden state in Nigeria for 3 successive years, the 2nd biggest GDP in Nigeria among other successes from his initiatives placing Osun on the pedestal of continued development currently steered by the Gboyega Oyetola led Administration.
