Croatia star explains why he prefers Chelsea to Real Madrid

Croatian star has revealed why he prefer Chelsea to Real Madrid in his recent interview with Marca ahead of the UEFA Nations League clash with Spain.

Mateo Kovacic was sent on loan to Chelsea after finding it difficult to break into the starting XI under former Real Madrid managers Zinedine Zidane and Julen Lopetegui.

The former Inter Milan midfielder is of the view that he does not know where his future lies as the Stamford Bridge directors are yet to agree permanently on Real Madrid terms for the Croatian midfielder as his loan expires at the end of the season.

“I wanted to be happy and at Chelsea I am,” he said in an interview with Marca.

“I just wanted to be happy and play matches, feel a responsibility within the team and I’ve found that at Chelsea. This is not the time to talk about anything other than playing and enjoying.

“I don’t want to think about what will happen and do want to be happy doing what I like, which is to play football every week.”

Real Madrid new coach Santiago Solari might consider the Chelsea loanee as an important player in his squad next season and could request for the player’s services at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid is also monitoring James Rodriguez at Bayern Munich, the Colombian is deemed to make a return back to the Spanish capital at the end of the season, though he is currently out of the year due to a knee injury.
