NSCDC boss lauds security firms

The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, has expressed satisfaction at the tremendous growth of Nigeria’s private security operations, describing it as a collaborative industry capable of contributing meaningfully to tackling national security challenges.

The Commandant made this claim after a visit to the technology hub and fusion centre at the Lagos Headquarters of Halogen Security Company Limited, as part of his official visit to Lagos.

Commandant General Abdullahi, in the company of two Assistant Commandants General and two Zonal Commanders of the Corps said: ‘I am impressed with what I have seen here today at Halogen Security Company. There is no doubt, some private security companies in Nigeria have outpaced expectations and are moving the industry forward.”

Abdullahi whose organization, NSCDC is the statutory regulatory body for private guard companies in Nigeria noted with satisfaction that the industry has come of age. “I am very impressed with your facilities and operations.” he said.

According to him, the visit is to deepened collaboration, growth, innovation, lawful and best practices in the operations of private security firms in Nigeria.

He said, “I value the private guard industry, I know where they are and I know where I want them to be. Above all I look forward to a formidable industry driven by expertise and integrity.”

Group Managing Director of Halogen Security Company Limited, Mr. Wale Olaoye described the Commandant General’s visit as historic and encouraging for the company and the industry at large.

He observed that the visit is the first time any NSCDC Commandant General, while in office, visits a private security company in their official capacity.

‘’We are delighted to receive you at Halogen’s corporate headquarters. This visit is historic, and commendable. It will surely bring you closer to our industry and enable us to meet, learn and share ideas with you on the state of the industry and its capabilities in contributing to the internal security of our dear country. As you have seen, our digital intel and Ops center which we refer to as The “Fusion Centre”, is where we operate real-time remote monitoring of our security locations for our clients information, data, physical, liquid, visible and invinsible assets using various digital tools, electronic equipment and telematics overtly and covertly to ensure the safety of our clients at all times.

Olaoye commended the giant strides of the Commandant General and his team, “We are happy that a lot of good things are happening in our industry and we are happy you have a great team working with you to achieve these feats.”

In his welcome note, the National President of Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Mr. Davidson Akhimien, expressed appreciation to the NSCDC boss for deeming it fit to visit members of the association.

This gesture, he noted, ‘shows that the Commandant General and his team are determined to ignite more positive changes in the private guard business in Nigeria. We appreciate your leadership and the dedication of your team.’

In the same vein, Lagos Zonal Chairman of ALPSPN, Mr. Wilson Esangbedo praised the administrative acumen of the NSCDC Leader, noting that the private guard industry is looking forward to replicating best practice across board.

The visit of the Commandant General also took him and his team to Halogen School of Security Management and Technology in GRA Ikeja and Halogen’s training grounds located at Ilupeju, Lagos and a few other private security firms in Lagos.
