Man In Court For Stealing Blind Old Woman’s #15,000

The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 24 year old man, Elijah Damilola before an Osun State Magistrates Court sitting in Osogbo, the State capital for allegedly stealing #15,000 feeding allowance of an old blind grandma in Osun State.

The prosecutor, Mr. Oladosu Joshua arraigned Elijah before Magistrate Ashiru Ayeni on a count charge of an alleged theft.

The charge sheet sighted by Correspondent, reads, “That you Elijah Damilola on 31st August, 2017 at about 10:30am at Kunfayakun area, Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District did steal the sum of N15,000 property of one Samson Oluwatoyin and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.”

Joshua also told the court that the money stolen by Elijah was sent to his account for the feeding of the complainant’s blind mother.

He said, “Oluwatoyin gave his(Elijah) account number to a family member to send the feeding allowance of her grandmother but when the N15,000 was sent to his account he denied receiving the money. But based on the complain of Oluwatoyin we followed him to his bank where we obtained statement of account of the accused person, it was confirmed that he had received the money and withdrew the money.

Elijah pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The defense counsel, Mrs. Raji Abiodun made an oral bail application for his client.

The prosecutor, Mr. Oladoye Joshua who did not oppose the bail application prayed the court to grant accelerated hearing of the matter.

The Magistrate, Mr. Ashiru Ayeni in his ruling admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of N10,000 and one surety in likesum.
He adjourned the case to October 13 for hearing.
