APC Ex-Militants, MEND, Others Commends Boroh’s Appointment As Head Of Amnesty Programme

The Paradigm – Ex-militants from the South-South geo-political zone which has aligned itself with the All progressives Congress (APC), have commended President Muhammadu Buhari for Brigadier-GeneralP.T. Boroh (rtd.) On his appointment as the new coordinator of the Niger Delta amnesty programme.

In a statement in Abuja on Tuesday by the President of National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, NCNDE, ‘General’ Israel Akpodoro, described the choice as a sign of change the Leader who charged Brigadier-GeneralP.T. Boroh (rtd.) to be diligent and steadfast implored him to bring his wealth of experience both as a retired military officer to bear on his new assignment.

Israel akpodoro also thanked the President on the tactics implored on fighting the insurgency in the north.

The leader wished Brigadier-GeneralP.T. Boroh (rtd.) well in his new job as the coordinator of the program and urged him to approach it with the same zeal and commitment he is noted for.

Meanwhile, erstwhile leaders of Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, and Ijaw youths from nine states of the Niger Delta yesterday commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Major-General Paul Boroh (rtd) as substantive chairman, Presidential Amnesty Implementation Committee.

The ex-MEND leaders described the appointment as apt, responsive and guaranteed to address hitches in the Amnesty programme, payment of outstanding allowances and scholarship fees, and other concerns of people of the region.

Ijaw youths under the aegis of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, commended Buhari and described the appointment of a coordinator for the amnesty programme, who also doubles as Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs to the President in the person of Gen. Boroh, as a responsive action of the current administration.

The former MEND leaders in a statement issued under the aegis of Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, LPCDI, and signed by National President, Pastor Reuben Wilson, stated that though the delayed appointment caused tension among beneficiaries of the programme, the choice of Boroh was welcome and commendable.

The IYC in a separate statement issued by spokesperson Eric Omare said Ijaw youths commend Buhari for responding to the agitation of the Niger Delta people by appointing Boroh as coordinator, Amnesty programme and Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs to the President.

“In our opinion, this is the first step towards resolving pressing and pending issues relating to the Niger Delta amnesty programme,” it stated.
