The Paradigm – Niger Delta ex-militants loyal to President Muhammudu Buhari has stated that they should be counted out of a meeting of various ‘generals’ and warlords billed to hold tomorrowin Bayelsa state.
Recall that notorious ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, had summoned a meeting of ex-militant generals in Bayelsa State under the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta group (MEND). The summons, which was issued as a statement by spokesperson Paul Bebeminibo and signed by Mr. Ekpemupolo, stated that the meeting was fixed for Saturday, July 25.
However, ex-militant under the aegis of National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Militants, NCNDE-A, has said the summon only referred to Ex-Militants under the umbrella of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking exclusively with The Paradigm, national president of the group Mr Israel Akpodoro, said “the meeting is for PDP ex-militants”.
Pressed further on what the federal government should do if the group decides to resumes hostilities in the region, Mr. Akpodoro popularly referred to as ‘General’ Israel stated that the federal government should go after them.

Meanwhile, the movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), has dissociated itself from a purported meeting of former Niger Delta militant groups said to be members and ex-leaders of the organisation.
The meeting, Tompolo had said was to discuss the government of President Muhammadu Buhari which he described has not achieved anything in his 2 months stay in office.
The statement reads:
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) dissociates itself from the purported meeting of “MEND/Ex-MEND Leaders” scheduled to hold on July 25, 2015 , in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State .
MEND wishes to state categorically that the proposed meeting is merely an assembly of dubious contractors and disgruntled elements, reacting on behalf of oil thieves and corrupt officials of the past administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) reaffirms our support for President Buhari and his government’s courage to probe the immediate past Goodluck Jonathan administration, which should also include the office of the Ex-President, the former First Lady and the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme.
MEND wishes to reiterate our commitment to the Niger Delta struggle which has no relationship with seeking Political appointments, Power or Contracts.
