A resident from Gombi confirmed that the troops were in control of the three towns now.

He said he was hiding on a hill on the major road to Gombi, when he saw many local hunters moving towards Gombi on Tuesday from Yola, the state capital.

The state government has imposed restrictions on movement in the area to protect residents from being caught in the crossfire between the insurgents and the troops.

Director of Press, Government House, Yola, Mr. P. P. Elisha, said Governor Bala Ngilari took the decision for safety of the residents and innocent motorists.

The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, also confirmed yesterday that the three towns are now under the control of the military. It also confirmed the killing of many of the terrorists.

In a post on its Twitter handle, the DHQ said that several of the terrorists were captured, along with weapons and equipment.

“Our troops are in full control of Gombi, Pelia and Hong, as operations to clean all areas infested by terrorists continue.

“Many terrorists are being captured as some died. Weapons and equipment are also being recovered. Moping up is ongoing in the areas even now,” the DHQ said.
