Police Parade criminals in Edo

The police in Edo State Tuesday paraded 46 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, child defilers, rapists and receiver of stolen goods where it also cautioned the people to be security- conscious as they go about their daily activities.

Parading the suspects before journalists at the State Command of the Nigerian Police, Commissioner of Police, Folusho Adebanjo said items such as 14 assorted guns, 22 live cartridges, 2,112 live AK 47 ammunitions, 17 AK 47 rifles, one expended cartridge and seven vehicles were recovered from the suspects adding that the suspects were picked across the state in the last one month.

One of the suspects who were said to have killed his victim and thrown his body into a well at Ekpoma Edo State, confessed to the crime before journalists, saying: “It was one Ezomon Monday that said I should do it. He said I should kill the person and throw the person into the well because there was a car we snatched and the tracker stopped the car on the way so the man now said that anytime that we get a vehicle with a tracker, we should kill the person or injure him.”

Hear the CP: “Today, we are parading 46 suspects. I want to assure the good people of Edo State that the war against criminals will be fought relentlessly, we will not allow any criminal to fester in Edo State. Also, many arms were recovered from these hoodlums.”

“Operatives of the Command, acting on credible information, arrested one Sunday Oviasogie popularly known as EPA. Investigations revealed that the suspect has been the chief sponsor of kidnappers and robbers in Edo State for the past 15 years. Apart from supplying arms and other materials for operations for robbers, he also receives stolen vehicles. Further investigation led to the arrest of three suspected kidnappers who confessed to have carried out the kidnapping of a man in Ekpoma on June 13, 2013 where the victim was killed and dumped in a well. Efforts are being made to track down other members of the gang.”

“The people of Edo State should continue to support of Edo State and other law enforcement agents, we need their cooperation. They should give us useful information so that we can have a safe society. There is also a receiver of stolen vehicles who has received over 100 of such vehicles and many have been moved to neighbouring countries. We will continue to do our best. We want to enjoin members of the country to give us useful information. Our country is passing through hard times and we need everybody to take precautions so that we will have a peaceful society it is not the business of the police and other security agencies alone, it is our collective responsibility.”

As security tips, Adebanjo urged owners of uncompleted buildings to clear them of undesirable persons “and freely request the assistance of security agencies to do so if necessary to avoid their buildings being used as camps.”

Besides, he urged landlords to properly screen tenants before they are accepted into their houses. “Residential, commercial establishments, institutions, churches, mosques, hotels and park owners are encouraged to install close circuit television (CCTV) and other surveillance devices strategically on their premises. These will aid in easy monitoring and capturing criminal activities,” he advised.
