Oshiomhole Consoles Soyinka On Daughter’s Death, As Orji Express Shock

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has commiserated with Prof Wole Soyinka on the death of his daughter, Iyetade, at the age of 48 after a brief illness.

In a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria, Comrade Oshiomhole said “we learnt with a rude shock about the death of your beloved daughter, Iyetade. Our hearts are with you and the entire Soyinka family at this very difficult period.

“While we grieve over the death of your loving daughter, we take solace in the fact that she lived a worthy life as a mother, an accomplished medical practitioner and was an inspiration to many who knew her.

“I offer my profound condolence and the commiseration of the good people and Government of Edo State on this sad incident.  “We pray God to grant you, the entire Soyinka family and indeed the two children left behind by the departed the courage to bear the sad loss. We also pray for peaceful rest for her soul in the Lord’s bosom.

Meanwhile, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State state has also expressed shock over the death of Iyetade.

Chief Theodore Orji, expressed his shock over Iyetade, who died recently after a brief illness at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, Governor Orji who said that he received the news of Iyetade’s demise with disbelief, urged Prof. Soyinka and other members of the Soyinka family to take solace in Almighty God, who he said is the giver and taker of life.

Governor Orji who described the death of Soyinka’s daughter as painful, implored the erudite professor not to be discouraged by this sad development.

“Though your daughter’s exit is painful but you should be comforted that she lived a life worthy of emulation. My prayer is that God Almighty will give you and other members of your family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May her gentle soul rests in peace.”
