APC Desperate To Welcome Atiku Abubakar To Its Fold, As He Puts The Party On Hold

Indications have emerged that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is desperate to welcome former vice president, Atiku Abubakar to its fold. This was revealed in a meeting facilitated by the leadership of the APC to draw Atiku to its fold.

Atiku, who spoke at the meeting, said that a strong opposition was necessary in every democracy to checkmate the activities of the government in power.

The former vice president said the APC was a strong opposition that would give Nigerians better alternatives in every election.

“I will consult with my political associates all over the country and then make an announcement later,”‘ Atiku said.

The former vice president said he is a strong supporter of a two party system and a strong opposition for the ruling party and will discuss with his political associates and give the APC an answer shortly.

The former vice president said “I am a strong believer of the two party system for this country” adding that “in the past, we have tried together with many of them to put together an alternative strong party so that we can Nigerians choice”

“Today (yesterday), there is that second party, that is the All Progressives Congress (APC), therefore they will want me to be part of it” he said,

He welcomed the “creation of the APC because it is healthy of our democracy and it is going to improve competition and also governance” noting that “once you have one very strong party and weak ones, then there is no way the opposition can check the government in power.

He further noted that “I will consult with my political associates all over the country and then make an announcement later”.

The APC has been wooing members of other political parties including former heads of states and their deputies to join the opposition and give them a firmer footing ahead of the 2015 elections.

Earlier, the ACP Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, said that the party was consulting with political stakeholders in the country to salvage the country`s image.

“We had worked with you before and we know you. The country is being discredited and we feel we should meet with men of good will to right the wrongs,” Akande said.

A former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) was working on modalities to meet with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He made this known to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday after the APC chieftains met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to woo him over to the party`s fold.

“We have the intention of meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo as soon as he is available so that we will tell him how we evolve APC.

“And then, we will ask for his understanding and cooperation. This is what we have been doing,” Buhari said.
