BREAKING NEWS: Manchester United Van Persie Out Injured, To Miss Holland Match

By Lanre Oguntoyinbo:
Robin van Persie has confirmed that a scan revealed his injured toe was not broken, although it is unlikely he will play in Holland’s World Cup qualifiers as it has not improved.
The 30-year-old sustained the injury after a stamp in the Shakhtar Donetsk game but played in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Sunderland at the weekend despite not being fully fit.
Holland coach Louis van Gaal didn’t use van Persie in full training this week in order to make sure he didn’t aggravate the injury any further but van Persie is unlikely to be fit in time.
“I got an enormous stamp on my toe and I really thought it had been broken, but luckily a scan showed it was not,” van Persie reporters at a press conference with Holland’s national side.
“I played on Sunday [in the 2-1 win at Sunderland] but the injury has not got better.”
The fact that David Moyes played van Persie against Sunderland despite his toe injury goes to show how important he is to Moyes despite Wayne Rooney’s return to form.
From a United perspective, it is good news that van Persie will likely not feature for Holland in the international break. It means that he will be able to recover properly from his toe injury and in his Arsenal days, he suffered a lot of his major injuries on international duty.
Van Persie could return for United’s next game at home against Southampton on 19 October if his toe injury is fully recovered.
