Walk Out, Street Fight And Division Wrecks PDP Special Convention

The PDP special convention that held yesterday might have ended, but the last has not been heard about how aggrieved members wrecked the party which prides itself as the largest in Africa.

An early sign that things will not be well first occurred, when delegates from Anambra state engaged themselves in a free for all. Members loyal to factional chairman Bamanga Tukur pounced on factional gubernitorial candidate for November 16 election in Anambra state, Dr. Andy Uba.

It took the effort of security operatives to calm the nerves of the aggrieved members.
Dr. Andy Uba and his self-confessed election rigger brother Chris Uba, had previously been suspended from the PDP for holding parallel congress in Anambra, but they had their suspension quashed by a Judge on Friday which made them free to attend the Special Convention.

Also, a split witnessed in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP during the special national convention may just be the beginning of more troubles for the party if the actions of Governors in the party are anything to go by.

But for Governor Usman Dakingari of Kebbi state and Isah Yuguda of Bauchi state, all the governors elected on the platform of the Party, who had attended the convention at the eagle square left President Goodluck Jonathan at the venue on Saturday night.
The governors, after hearing about the walkout of six of their colleagues, left the venue of the party’s convention one after the other, dejected.

Aside the governors, many supporters of the party who may be loyal to their governors also left the venue of the mini convention, leaving a handful of supporters till the close of the event.

Others who stayed with President Jonathan till the end of the event were his deputy, Namadi Sambo, factional National Chairman of the party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur and few others.

Surprisingly, Governor Godswill Akpabio also did not stay till the close of the programme. Akpabio, who had earlier spoken eloquently and assured the President of the support of his fellow governors, walked out of the venue with his head bowed, looking dejected and unhappy.

He refused to speak with journalists or acknowledged greetings from his people when he was leaving.
