"Song’s exit, a huge loss for Arsenal"- Sagna

Arsenal defender, Bacary Sagna, has admitted that he was more surprised by the departure of Alex Song than Robin van Persie’s. The former Auxerre player revealed that they expected Van Persie to leave not the Cameroonian.

“We expected Robin Van Persie to leave, but not Alex Song … it was a surprise,” The France international told L’Equipe. “This is a huge loss for the club. When you see two of the best players from last season leave, you ask a lot of questions. I understand that the fans are upset. I, like them, do not quite understand.

“[Song] is 24 years old, and he still had three years left on his contract. I don’t understand that at all. You return from holiday, you’re preparing, you see two players leave the club … It’s been like that since I have been at the club. I’m used to it.

“I’m the only player from the line-up in 2007 still present. In May, I watched Manchester City’s Premier League trophy parade on TV. I saw Samir [Nasri] and Gael [Clichy] lift the trophy. I want that feeling.”

Sagna confirmed that his contract will run out in 2014 and there have been no discussions about an extension yet.

“For now, I just want to play again and get back to a good level with Arsenal. After that, we’ll see … Everyone has their destiny,” he said.
