London 2012 Paralympic Games: Nigeria athletes protest neglect despite winning medals

Team Nigeria athlete in the ongoing London 2012 Paralympic Games have protested the neglect by the Nigerian Paralympic Committee who they claim neglected them.

Part of their grievance was the proposed payments of this allowance in Naira. Some of the athletes refused to collect their allowances saying that they ought to have been paid by the National Sports Commission (NSC) in pound sterling like their counterparts at the Games.

Paradigmshiftng.com gathered that the athletes for the track and field events have collected their allowances as each of them was said to have been paid 1,700 dollars.

Sources however, revealed that the powerlifters in the team were yet to collect theirs at the time of filing this report.

“Why should we be paid in dollars? None of the athletes who went to London 2012 main Olympics won a medal yet, they were paid 2,400 pounds each.

Here we are, we have made Nigeria proud by wining gold medals here and those at the helm of affairs only felt we should be paid in dollars.

Why the disparity for goodness sake? It is unfair,” said one of the athletes, who pleaded anonymity.
