How Stella Lied Against The DANA-153, The First Lady & to All Nigerians!

Patient Jonathan

When I got a post detailing how Dame Patience Jonathan was complicit in the ill-fated Dana Crash in Lagos at less than a minute to touchdown at Runway 18L of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, my first reaction was to let out a loud guffaw. It was beyond funny; it was downright childish and a silly joke. But when it flew around more I got sick to the pits of my stomach. Sick that someone who has access to social media who, rather than seek ways to aid the displaced residents of the crash area and give succor to mourning Nigerians, took time out to concoct such a sick write up which can only work at best, to polarize an already emotionally charged nation. I had to place several calls to friends to disregard this wicked and malicious rumour. For facts sake, I have attempted to articulate where this story moves from activism to insult of both the living and the dead.

Facts:
Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) are issued world over for VIPs to use the airspace over any route determined by Airspace controllers. VIP by this rule is determined by whoever the government considers so. (please read ) For example, the airspace over some portions of New York for Chelsea Clinton’s wedding (see: http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/4883645/ ). According to Ben Mutzabaugh, of USA TODAY Newspaper “the agency’s website shows a
“Notice to Airmen” that says simply that the temporary restriction will be in place for “VIP (Very Important Person) Movement.” The restriction will go into effect at 3 p.m. local time Saturday and will remain in effect until 3:30 a.m. on Sunday”. This TFR lasted over 12 hours. Funny enough Chelsea’s dad was not even president at the time of the enforcement of this TFR. The responses to this article further evidence other incidences of the enforcement of TFRs.
Chicago O’Hare’s Airport was shut down for 5 ½ Hours on November 28, 2011 to enable Michelle Obama attend a funeral of Maggie Daley in Chicago (please read the newspaper report from Chicago Tribune evidencing this at http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-ohare-air-space-restriction-hints-at-vip-for-maggie-daley-funeral-20111128,0,630343.story). And According to http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html “Presidential/VIP movement TFRs can be issued with little advance notice”. All this are in the USA where civilization is at its finest. Violations are met with very serious brute force with military fighter jets enforcing strict compliance: (please see http://www.airspacemag.com/flight-today/Dont-Cross-That-Line.html )I wonder why such TFRs are criminal in Nigeria!

  1. Security agencies, Medical Evacuation, Emergency Services and Distressed Aircrafts are exempted from this restriction. To better understand the concept of a Mayday call, please read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayday . It is a good thing the write acknowledges that the aircraft had made a MAYDAY signal which automatically excludes it from any TFR no matter for what reason it was implemented in the first instance. For further proof of International Civil Aviation regulation of MAYDAY and TFRs please download and read the Complete International Civil Aviation Regulation here: http://www.google.com.ng/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=how%20to%20land%20a%20mayday%20aircraft%20in%20restricted%20airspace&source=web&cd=4&sqi=2&ved=0CFoQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cassoa.org%2Fresource-centre%2Fdoc_download%2F303-the-civil-aviation-rules-of-the-air-and-air-traffic-control-regulations.html&ei=rZ3OT-iLK4jEsgaVv6WeCw&usg=AFQjCNHCCP6xaj_w7Om0weKSG-0heMzh-g&sig2=bdvTOQYIf_j2dp57ve2TnQ . So why would someone allege that the Dana Flight couldn’t land because it was forced to stack till the airspace was reopened.
  1. Again, the plane crashed into buildings, highest of which was a 2-Storeyed with a maximum allowed height of 60 feet. The lowest height aircrafts are allowed to stack is 6,000 feet. (please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holding_(aviation) ). So how do we reconcile a minimum of 6,000 and a crash occurring at about 60 feet above ground? An aircraft is stall (which would have been the reason the aircraft couldn’t hold if indeed it were stacking) would have fallen in 3 basic ways: 1. spinning nose first towards the ground 2. Rolling to a steep bank with wing perpendicular to the ground and 3. Fuselage, top or bottom, to the earth. (pls see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stall_(flight) ). No account has shown that any of these happened so I wonder how Stella hopes to prove her story to the world.
  1. A trajectory drawn from Iju Area of Lagos places it in the same region of as Runway 18L of the airport with a maximum of 5 degrees error on either side. With flaps and landing gear down, it is obvious that the aircraft was indeed approaching the airport to land. This is not strange considering that total length of time required for approach is 15 minutes. And at less than one minute to touchdown, being low enough to have hit the houses would not be out of place for a plane in distress.
  1. If, again the accusation of an accident not being due to a fault of the aircraft, what will explain the aircraft running into these buildings and not falling on top of them? How would the story of the accounts by the airline of the plane’s unairworthiness be upheld when in fact except for a damaged hydraulics system (which this plane has been constantly accused of) a plane with damaged engines and no fuel can still glide for over 50 kilometers and land safely.
  1. Finally, the mother of all bollocks, the conspiracy theory about the presidency restricting media coverage of the crash site. That part not only sounds stupid and outrightly childish, but very uneducated and libelous. Now let us review the crash site again: it is within shouting distance to Alagbado, Head Quarters of AIT. Now a plane crashes, security agencies (or whoever found out first) was able to have deduced what happened, relayed a message to the presidency, the president and his team (famed for being very slow to action) decodes the message, issues a gag order on all media houses, gets the appropriate machinery to enforce it all before reporters from AIT which is at the farthest and in the maddest of traffic, just 1 hour away got to the scene. WOW! Even with the highest of military precision, as the best equipment in the world, no human is still that supernatural to have achieved this; not even if he was a high-speed computer, from far away Abuja.

Having put these facts forward, this article shows to what extent people will go to seek cheap publicity and prey on the misfortune of others. I would almost speculate that she is on the pay-roll of the Indian managers of DANA AIR who have kept mum despite the plethora of ‘facts’ she has presented to bolster their case. It is very inhuman and callous that such a woman will go to such stupid lengths to create fame for herself using a national misfortune as her excuse.
In a civilized society, Stella would have been made to apologize to the families of the crash victims, the President, His Wife and the entire Nigerians for exhibiting such moral bankruptcy and indiscretion for such hurriedly produced accusation which not only lacked basis but also beat every conceivable reason. Personally, I wonder what her target was and what she hoped to achieve. (if I were a relative of any of the victims of this crash or the First Lady, I would have sued her for all she’s worth!)
She must be made to retract that write-up, write a rebuttal admitting her lies and indiscretion and apologize to the entire Nigerians for it and made to do community service to make up for jarring the nation’s emotion and unnecessarily heating up the polity. Please rebroadcast and condemn her in the strongest terms till she does so!
