The extremist sect says the President lacked the capacity to clamp down it

The Jama’atu Ahlil sunnah lil daawati wal jihad, popularly known as Boko Haram, has uploaded a video on YouTube challenging President Goodluck Jonathan over his comment that the sect would finally be crushed by June this year.

The sect’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, featured in the video surrounded by some of his lieutenants masked in turbans, and wielding AK 47 Kalashnikovs rifles, said the President lacked the wherewithal to clamp down on the group.

“We heard what you [Jonathan] said recently that you will soon finish us within three months; such statements are only made by people who are loquacious,” he said.

Mr. Shekau, who spoke in both Arabic and Hausa languages, also compared the President to Pharaoh, saying he would not be able to destabilise the sect.

“We are confident you will do nothing, in fact, our desire is to die fighting in the way of Allah,” he said.

Mr. Shekau also said that the sect is not fighting anyone other than those who fight them, saying the sect has “no intention of harming anyone who does not cross our path.”

The sect leader also claimed that some persons had been using his organisation’s name to defraud people, adding that they were not involved in such scams and that those doing so would face the wrath of God.

Mr. Shekau concluded by reminding the President that there was no need for him to brag about victory over the sect.

“Whatever happens to us, victory is ours,” he said.
